We're not anti link mind you, but we don't want a page full of links to sites with content in which we nothing in common just for the sake of popularity. We search for high quality links to sites that revolve around handcrafted items of all types.

I love to listen to music while creating jewelry. It adds a lot to the creative spirit but I don't always like to hear all the songs played on the radio or on a CD. Enter...Playlist! You can add songs you like and listen to them at your leisure right from your computer. The bracelet and earring set you see here were made while I was enjoying songs from Collective Soul. :)

Playlist gives me the option to listen only to the songs I like such as Hotel California, The World I Know, In the Arms Of The Angels and Kid Rock's All Summer Long, just to name a few. Good music, no matter what the genre, and creativity go hand-in-hand at Earring Gems :)

Bead Mania

To say I was in my glory is an understatement. To say I was in awe doesn't quite tell the whole story. I did what any bead addict does when they walk into a new bead store...I salivated. Lancaster Bead Co. in Lancaster, PA brought out the mania that is my addiction. Beads, beads and beads! Did I mention beads?

Earring Gems is all about the jewelry and the jewelry is all about the beads. Now if you'll excuse me I have a bag of beads I am dying to dig into. :)

It's been a long haul but Earring Gems is on the web. We are not announcing the grand opening just yet, we still have several earrings and sets to get up there, but you can take a look (and shop if you're so inclined) at http://www.earringgems.com. We are very excited about our website and hope you will enjoy it too.

Photographing Jewelry

Photographing jewelry is a challenge at best. I've discovered that different earrings need different backgrounds. It had been my hope that I could use the same background for each piece of jewelry on the Earring Gems website (wishful thinking, I know) to have a more uniform look but it is not meant to be. As you can see in the photos there is a difference in backgrounds.

I do everything possible with my camera to take pictures that show details of each piece of jewelry. If you ever have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at earringgems@verizon.net.

Glass *Wear*

I love glass beads, especially when they are hand painted. The beads, yellow with brown, have a safari feel with hand-painted, life-like animal patterns on both sides.

Glass beads can be a bit heavy and these are no exception but their unique beauty is worth it! They are attached to gold-plated surgical steel earwires and are approximately 2 1/4" in length. For more information please email us at earringgems@verizon.net

Wood Beads

Wood beads are a fun way to express yourself. They are unique, durable and come in countless sizes, shapes and designs.

I string my bracelets with .5mm and .7mm stretchy jewelry cord and firmly glue all knots. They average 7 to 8 inches round and some bracelets come with matching earrings. I use rubber (synthetic) cord for the necklaces I make with wood beads.

Easing the Stress

Things seem to be going to hell in a hand basket lately. Unemployment, mortgage failure, businesses closing...all part and parcel of a bigger picture. With these issues comes fear, panic and depression. Apparently the tide is going to rise before it turns and we need to find ways to relieve the stress without breaking what budget we have left.

During the spring, summer and fall my husband and I like to meander through areas of Susquehannock State Park. The scenery is awesome and best of all it's free! At Muddy Run Park we go to the pond and schmooze with ducks and geese and other not-so-friendly fowl. We push our worries to the back of our minds and soak everything in. It's a great way to relax, and in going there during different times of the year we get to experience the transformation that comes with the changing of the seasons.

Winter is a little more challenging because we don't enjoy the cold of the frozen tundra (well, okay, it's not that cold but it's cold enough to keep us indoors) so we have to be creative in finding other ways to relieve stress. When possible we take a little money from our household budget and go out to eat. Sometimes we pop some popcorn and watch a movie like Men In Black or Men In Black II (or both, we've seen them a gazillion times.) I like to work on earrings while watching my favorite TV shows.

The library is a great place to go. Inside its walls are stories that take us away from our troubles. Most libraries have programs for young and old alike. So if you want to escape for awhile and visit a faraway land or learn something new (quantum physics comes to mind), then visit your local library.

The tide is going to rise before it turns but it will turn. In the meantime remember to take care of YOU.

All Dangles Are Not Created Equal

Sometimes too much dangle is, well, too much dangle. There are situations and outfits that require a less is more approach. Earring Gems offers earrings in a wide variety of lengths such as the ones you see pictured.

Czech Glass

I've developed quite a love affair with Czech glass beads. The design in the photo below is one I created using Topaz Czech glass beads and gold-filled chain on gold-plated brass fish hook earwires.

Made of the best quality glass, Czech glass beads come in many vivid colors and they won't fade.
